Be Stronger Than Your Excuses – I saw this message on a sign at a fitness club the other day, and I was struck by the significance of the message in relation to multiple aspects of life related to exercising and beyond.
The message speaks to a tendency we have in ourselves to make excuses for not doing activities related to everything from exercise and wellness to organization and home improvement. The tendency is just as prevalent in relation to changing our mindset, expanding our self-expression, and nurturing our spiritual growth as well.
The excuses for delaying or otherwise avoiding physical, mental, and spiritual self-improvement and enrichment are varied and limiting but often relate to beliefs about not enough time or finances, or doubts about the power of spiritual principles or our own readiness or worthiness for healing, change, and expansion. Whatever the reasons, these excuses are holding us back on our path of spiritual growth, full self-expression, and a deeper sense of well-being.
Despite a tendency for hesitation and excuses that limit our spiritual enrichment and “fitness,” our natural urge deep within is toward our spiritual growth and fuller expression of life. In The Universe is Calling, author Eric Butterworth reminds us that, “It is the call (of the Universe) to come up higher, to take charge of your life, to release your imprisoned splendor.” And in The Creative Process in the Individual, author Thomas Troward tells us that “The same power of the great cosmic forward movement of the Universe is working within ourselves, and we find ourselves able to facilitate its progress by offering more and more favorable conditions for its working,” (referring to our openness, receptivity and allowing).
So, it is our true nature to continually move forward unencumbered and not limited by excuses, or other hesitation or blockage. The reminder from Troward that, “the same power of the great cosmic forward movement of the Universe is working within ourselves,” really says it all – we are stronger than our excuses. The power of the Universe that is working within ourselves is stronger than any excuse, no matter how big or difficult it may seem. When we open to this truth and continually remind and encourage ourselves, we rise above and move beyond our excuses to new experiences that heal and strengthen our mind and body, expand our livingness, and enrich our daily lives in new and deeper ways. Here is an affirmation to guide you on this path:
I open to the power of the cosmic movement of the Universe that is within me, and I move forward in new and magnificent ways.
